... The Nigerian Institute of Management has come a long way in the training of professional managers in
both private and public sectors. It is therefore my singular honour and privilege to acknowledge the
contributions of the founders of this important body and pay tribute to the past Presidents of the
Institute I making it what it turns out to be in today’s Nigeria.
The Institute is caught up in the cobweb of global transition, which is easily translated I the
context of globalization and supported by information super highway of our time.
The Charter status of the Institute has given it a legal backing to transform the traditional management style of
getting things done to a more vibrant, dynamic and state of the art style of not only getting things done but also
seeing it done with precision through the use of modern management tools
The outgoing President has done a lot to the Nigerian Institute of Management through
the use of private sector marketing strategy of selling the new NIM. He talks good of
NIM. He labels its new package with new inscription that o prospective manager can
afford to ignore. The packet reads, “It is a new improved NIM”. Its membership
improved significantly within two years of his tenure. He created big and wide pair of
shoes for my small sized feet to fit in. But all hopes are not lost because NIM has a
tradition of retaining past Presidents in the Council. Therefore, Chief Aimiuwu will join
hands with other elected Council members who are equally competent professionally to
support the youngest incoming President in promoting and maintaining the tempo of
developmental change the Institute is undergoing.
Specifically, the new Council will ensure full development of state Branches and
Chapters of NIM. The Management Centers that have been established in some states
will be developed fully to promote management excellence to the grass root. The
NYSC/NIM partnership directed by the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed
Forces Chief Olusegun obasanjo and the first Companion of the Institute will continue I
earnest to prepare the young graduates with management skills so as to catch them young
managerially. These are part of the new vision of the Institute.

Information Technology (IT)
The Nigeria Institute of Management has over 70,000 members across various disciplines
and professions. Its membership is every where i.e. Academia Engineering, Financial
Institutions, Judiciary, Military, Oil sectors, Political class Public/Private Sectors, Police,
Traditional Institution, Medical, etc. Its membership is both corporate and individual. The application of
management skills in human and material is so vital that the extensive use of IT solutions in membership, training
and other interactions could be done electronically to make things easier faster and more accurate. The new Council
will therefore upgrade and enrich the Institute’s website to face the new challenges.
Information Communication Technology will be central to my operation and I therefore challenge members,
especially my Council members to be IT compliant if we must sustain ourselves at the required cruising level.
As the Source and Symbol of Management Excellence, we must gear ourselves for management resources bank and disseminate
same for the benefit of our members and the society at large. This we can only do through the Information Technology
which is my core area of interest.
We are practicing it in Jigawa and it is working for us. It must be made to work for NIM. The world is not
waiting and those lagging behind must hurry to catch up with the pace.

Professional Code of Conduct & Ethics
The Institute will enforce the application of its professional code of conduct & ethics guidelines by members to ensure
discipline, transparency, and accountability in line with the best practice. It does not make sense for a member of
any grade to be found wanting in the discharge of his/her duty. The Council will not hesitate to evoke the provision
of Law as spelt out in the Institute’s Charter under Part V Section 12 (7).
Registration of new membership and election of Fellows will be strictly checked and verified in addition to
mandatory professional training as specified in the Act of the Institute. The new Council would be vigilant in
scrutinizing the credentials and personalities of elected Fellows before going public. It will be highly embarrassing
for the Institute to find the integrity of its members being questioned on the basis of corruption and/or professional
misconduct.
Staff of the Institute
The new Council believes in capacity building of competent staff to meet target. With the new chanllenges ahead
the Council will continue to expose the staff for further training both locally and internationally. The junior and the
middle cadre staff should have training schedules by the human resources department in such a manner that a vacuum is not
created to jeopardize the routine functions of the Institute.
