MEMBERSHIP REGISTER

In an innovation the charter provides for a register of members in the four membership categories to be prepared and maintained by the Register of the Institute in accordance with the rules made by the Council. The Register contains the members addresses, approved qualifications and other relevant particulars as may be specified in the By-Laws of all persons who are entitled to enrolment in the 4 membership categories of the Institute.

The register is divided into 5 parts 4 parts for the four membership categories and the fifth part for graduate and student members.

Under the rules only qualified members who pay their membership fees are entitled to be enrolled in the register. And only registered members are entitled to be addressed as Professional or Chartered Managers and to practice as Professional Management Practitioners.

The necessary consequences of non-payment of membership fees may be delistment of the defaulting members name from the register of members by the Registrar of the Institute. A member may also be delisted from the register upon conviction of the Professional Management Disciplinary Tribunal of any of the offences listed in the Act or for any of the offences recognized by the Council of the Institute.

DISCIPLINE OF ERRING PROFESSIONAL MANAGERS Section 11 and 12 of the Act make provisions for the establishment of two bodies that are charged with the discipline of erring Professional Managers. The 2 bodies are The Professional Management Disciplinary Tribunal and The Professional Management Investigation Panel.

The aim is to instill discipline and sound ethical conduct in the practice of the profession of management by all Professional Managers in Nigeria.

The duty of the PMIP is three fold:

  1. Conducting a preliminary investigation into any case where it is alleged that a member has misbehave in his capacity as a Professional Management Practitioner.
  2. Or should for any other reason be subject of the proceedings before the tribunal.
  3. Deciding whether the case should be transferred to the tribunal.
The Professional Management Disciplinary Tribunal is charged with the two-fold duty of:
  1. Considering and determining cases referred to it by the Professional Management Investigation Panel and;
  2. Any other case, which the tribunal has taken cognizance of under the Act.

CATEGORIES OF OFFENCES
Two categories of offences committable by the professional managers are revealed in the Act.

STATED OFFENCES
The first category are those types of offences that are mentioned in the Act five of them in number between sections 11 and 12 of the Act.
They are:

a) Acts, which constitute professional misconduct by professional managers section 11(6).
b) Infamous conduct by professional managers (section 12(1)).

c) Unprofessional conduct by professional managers (section 21 explanatory notes).

d) Offences borne out of acts incompatible with the status of a Professional Management Practitioner section 12(1)(b).

e) Misbehaviour in the capacity of a Professional Management Practitioner 11(3).
